Battle for the sun

First of all, I love placebo, my romance with them started when I heard their song special needs (when I was only 9 or 10 years old) for the first time and it has continued till the times of the song to say goodbye and here I am now sitting and writing nonsense about their new album…I love critique so go a head and leave comments (please).

Sisters, brothers and the ones in between, it’s a talk about a hot new album, Battle for the Sun, by the wonderful and android like Placebo. I have lots of sympathy for this album; it was pretty cool and here is the list of the songs that on the record:

I think that the album is ok…good at telling a story (of dysfunctional love), but most of the time it bored me by its’ not very deep and unmelodic sounds that stayed unchanged during the whole disc (while Placebo was always a good band that delivered good and strange melodies just like in the Meds album), though I really liked Battle for the Sun and Speak in Tongues. In my opinion this two songs truly saved the whole record. The lyrics are not bad: Battle for the Sun reminds me somehow of the first biblical Murderer Cain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cain_and_Abel) while I hear the lines “Dream brother, my killer, my lover” that r in a half voice to the point that you almost can’t hear it clearly.  Speak in Tongues has a very chick clingy lines that stay for a very long time in your head, for example:

” Every single sense in me is heightened
There's nothing left inside to rearrange
Like a slave to history and science
I long, I burn to touch you just the same”

For the whole day I said over and over again in different conversation about different topics my new cliché line:” Like a slave to history and science”. Consequently the song has a potential of becoming a part of a pop culture very soon, at least I think so.

On the other hand I didn’t like Devil in the Details because the title is great and so you expect for something even greater, but it really disappointed me by its’ monotone sound and boring lines, I only swam in the shallow waters and unsatisfied desires during the whole song!

If you look at the whole picture, you’ll see that the album is pretty ok, not their best work, but surely it’s not an album without a concept and you can feel that the band tried their best and wanted to deliver their new found enthusiasm to us.

  • By the way ,they won recently on the  vmas or emas – I don’t really remember! CongratsJ
